How can I switch my cell phone carrier to a different company without going into the store?

I pay around 70-80 per month which is too much when I dont even have a smart phone. i’m planning to switch to at&t because my family has at&t and is under a family plan. do I have to go into at&t to get my name under theirs since I want to keep the phone number?

Is buying a cell phone from an authorized retailer cheaper than from the company owned store?

I went to the authorized retailer one time and they didnt accept debit cards unlike the company owned store in the mall.
