How does one propose new products for the Y! Company Store?
On 15 November 2008, I brainstormed an idea for a semi-useful gift item for Users (such as myself) who frequent User Services video divisions such as Bix and 360°: A whiteboard “clack-board” (similar in build to the promotional blackboard “clack-boards” offered at Universal Studios, Party City, &c.) with the texts “YAHOO! Studios,” “Prod. No.,” “Title,” “Director,” “Camera,” and (at the base) “Date | Scene | Take.” I envisioned black text for the permanent decals for the data as proposed.
I saw no Customer Feedback or Suggestions links at CompanyStore.Yahoo.com where I could raise a proposal. Any help navigating the stages of new-product proposal would be greatly appreciated.
The same proposal process the subject of this Question also applies for useful items similar to the coffee mugs, T-shirts, &c. already offered at the Company Store; I have some division-specific items in mind as additional items for consideration, e.g., orange for the omg! division of Y! Entertainment; black for the bix division of User Services (the latter having been purchased by Yahoo! in ‘06); and white for the recently-started flickr division.
Tom Willis: Excellent suggestion for unprecedented items. The items I wanted to bring to Company Store’s attention don’t have patent issues as far as I’m aware, as the applicable patents have most likely expired; the “clack-board,” still in use in redesigned form today with additional electronics retrofitted, was invented in the 1910’s for a film industry in its infancy, and I didn’t plan on adding a digital display (the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers retrofitted the display to synchronize multiple cameras in post-1982 productions, and it uses a proprietary signal connection anyway, so most would-be buyers of my proposed item can’t use it anyway).
