I guess by parakeets you mean budgies? Firstly you will need another male as the females will fight over the single male. Then you need to separate the pairs, otherwise if the hens get jealous they will eat eggs and kill chicks. You need a nest box a standard budgie box is fine, it needs a concave in the bottom. Attach it to the cage and fill with a layer of wood shavings about 1inch deep. The hen is likely to remove most of the shavings but that is normal and helps her get into breeding mode. The birds need supplements such as cuttlefish, grit, iodine. You need the budgies to be in breeding condition before they will breed, the hen has to have a dark crusty brown cere it will look like dry blood and some people mistake it for blood. The male will have a bright blue cere and will become more active, chatting and jumping around, he will also take more interest in the hen. Any more questions just e-mail me.
