Is it safe to store jeans in a plastic bag?
Vee asked:
I ordered an extra pair of great jeans that I would like to store away for a few years. Right now, they’re neatly folded inside the plastic bag that they came in. Can I store them like this? Or can the plastic bag have a harmful effect over time?

a plastic bag will be ok San
They should be ok as long as the jeans are stored dry in somewhere dry and you don’t store them somewhere that gets really hot like the back of a car or an attic.
If you store them wet, the bag will hold in the moisture and mold will form. If you store them in a hot place, you could have ink leach out from the bag and discolor your pants. devilishblueyes
Never store clothing in any type of plastic. Even those plastic garment bags are no good for clothing, for it allows moisture to become trapped and makes for mildewy, smelly clothes. You’d be better off putting them in a cedar chest. Rosebush
Plastic degrades over time and also traps moisture and can cause fading to the dye. Best to wrap them in paper or put them in a grocery bag (paper) and staple or tape it shut. voicefromparis
Yeah, I’d be afraid the plastic would sweat or hold moisture causing your pants to mold and deteriorate. Then you would have lost a great pair of jeans! Down Pillow
Never store anything in plastic. Plastic will hold moisture in, and that will cause spots that will never ever come out. Ever notice the little yellowish and brownish spots that come from nowhere? Moisture!
Store clothes in a breathable fabric like cotton. An old sheet works great. Just make sure it’s 100% cotton. Tamara9954
I have stored several pairs at one time in plastic bags. I used Hefty heavy duty bags,.Place jeans in the bag, stick the end of your vacuume cleaner hose in the bag. Use your hand to keep the bag sealed around the hose and turn on the vacuum.Suck as much air out as posible, then tie off. Clothes stored this way take up less room. mike p
