Mommy 2 B July 26th To A Girl asked:

I am a new mother and I’m kind of confused on the whole storage of breast milk. I understand how long it can stay in the fridge and freezer etc. I DON’T understand what kind of container would be best to use to insure I had the proper amount for a feeding each time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What I’m looking to do it find a way to best store my breast milk and not have any waste basically.

Breast milk can be stored in a plastic or glass bottle with a seal able top, or in a sterile, seal able bag. Store your breast milk in amounts that you use every day to avoid wasting it. For example, if your baby eats 4 ounces in a feeding, put 4 ounces of breast milk in the storage container. If I was going to be using that milk withen 8 days I would attach the bottle to my pump and pump directly into the bottle and store it in the fridge. Anything I froze went into a baggie. They sell them in most stores near the baby feeding aisle. This mommy makes pretty babies

my wife pumped her extra milk into plastic small bags that are made just for that she wrote a date on each one than froze them for later, like when i was at home with my baby girl and needed to give her milk, and after a short time we had a stock pile of milk bags in the freezer. might i suggest a electric milk pump? the wife had a dual one that worked on both sides at the same time, it was nice when we had a night out that we new she had milk on demand in the freezer,so the sitter could give her milk when needed. robert c

they sell freezer bags specifically for breast milk. Mine are made by lansinoh and they have a place for you to write the date and amount in the bag. I know Lansinoh is not the only company to make them. I got mine from babies r us, but you can look around, I would think places like Wal-Mart or Target would sell them too Jackie

I used the bags. They were easy to move if I needed to do so and easy to thaw. Pet

My favorite bags that seem to hold up well are the Lansinoh My Mommy’s Milk bags. They have a double ziplock closure and I haven’t had one leak yet, going on a full year of storing. I also use Avent Via containers that hold about 8oz at a time… great for larger amounts!! chelseasmom03
