Where do you store dirty rags before you wash them?
dundi asked:
I clean the bathroom, kitchen, etc. and have dirty rags and dish rags. Currently I put them on top of the washing machine in a pile, but it is gross if I can’t wash them immediately. Do you wash them together with bleach? Do you store them in a hamper with clothes? What do you do if you can’t wash them right away? Especially wet kitchen towels? Do you store them together? What if you only have one or two dirty rags, not enough to do a wash?

Put your dirty cleaning rags in a plastic bag or some plastic container until you can wash them. I wouldn’t put my kitchen towels with the cleaning rags. You use the kitchen ones around your food and don’t wash them together.
I have a separate laundry basket in the laundry room that I put all my towels and rags in until I have enough to do a load. I wash it all together with color safe bleach. If a rag is too gross to wash with my regular towels, I throw it out!! I try and leave wet ones over the edge to dry if I know they will not be washed that day so they will not mold. My husband wads wet towels and rags up, leaves them for me to find, and then I have to toss them because they molded!!
let em soak in h20 and comet a few days b4 washing
I have a mesh laundry bag that hangs in my laundry room specifically for cleaning rags and kitchen towels. Because of the mesh, the towels can breathe and dry out and no mold or mildew will form. Once I have enough for a load, I run them with bleach. And yes, I have a large enough supply of microfiber rags and kitchen towels that I can run a full load.
I put mine in a pastic bag and hang it from the door knob of the laundry room. I always wash with color bleach no matter what I am washing.
if you do not have enough to wash a full load most washing machines have adjustments to where you can lower the water level to only do a very small load. Mine has a sensor so it knows how full to fill the water line no matter what.
I just throw mine in the empty washer til laundry day. It’s usually only a couple of days. I wash them in bleach with the whites.
I never wash my kitchen rags with bathroom rags or cleaning rags…but if you do wash them together be sure and use bleach and hot water. I have a plastic diaper pail that has a pop up lid, i keep the dirty ones in that and the lid helps with the odor.
It all depends what I use them for. If it’s dish towels, usually after a couple days they go in with the white load, I’ll use shout on the stains if any.
I will use rags(old clothes) on the more dirty stuff, and keep them in the garage, ….they stay as rags, and if they get too dirty, I throw them away.
